Some years ago i did an attempt to watch IT, but back then i guess i found the movie boring and it got turned off long before we could even finish watching it.
However, the 2017 version of IT was recently put up on Netflix and Catrine was curious about my opinion on the movie. I am currently on holiday from work and have some extra time to pass, so why not ditch the tv-show binging and go for a movie instead.
This movie actually proved to be quite entertaining and enjoyable, and i did not loose interest while watching it. So why not just write a few words about my thoughts on it.
Friendly reminder that I watched this movie with an open mind, and without any expecations or preconceptions other than knowing about the movie from before. Also, i am not an expert, just some first impressions here, guys.
In many ways this movie was hard to watch, with all the elements of bullying and dark family situations. But the movie has a very good blend of just that. The good times, bad times and horror in between.
And how a group of people come together fighting their own battle, and fight a greater one together.
A little off topic here, but dare i say, when it comes to bullying that i don't get why someone who has had a hard time would make life hell for other people.
isn't that the opposite of what you should desire for yourself and others?
Makes more sense to me to behave better than that, and be the best person you can become instead.
And back to the movie, shall we.
In terms of the horror and fright in this movie, it wasn't much to scare me.
It has to do with the scary bits being predictable, and that i am a bit too much of a realist. Nevertheless, the horror scenes are very good, and i think the kids are acting that fright feeling so very well. And truly, the scenes sure have that unpleasant, andrenaline kick to them. The creep factor is definitely there.
One good example was the scene where Bill goes down in the basement and get a glimpse of Georgie and Pennywise, wouldn't wanna meet that in the dark.
Well balanced movie, with some good classical elements to it, like a bunch of boys romancing over the same girl, and a kiss breaking the spell. The characters themselves were so adorable with their personalities, except Richie, you had no charm to me, sorry, it's just that attitude.
Overall i kind of see this more as an adventure movie with horror elements, and to put it shortly: a little like The Goonies, but with a twist. It had me feeling all sorts of emotions.
I am going to end this by concluding with Bill Skarsgård actually making Pennywise a lot more entertaining than the original one. Those Skarsgård brothers sure know their stuff when it comes to acting, i was sensing a little Floki actually.
Now i guess we just have to wait and see what part 2 will unfold for us.
